That after waiting a mere twelve years, I am FINALLY PLAYING INNOCENT SIN?

So pretty much now the rest of my life is on hold. Eternal Punishment was one of those life-changing games, and I'd given up hope of P2: IS ever coming state-side long ago. And MY LIFE

SO COMPLETE

WHAT

Okay I guess it's working for now, but it was about three days of me going ":/ ?" with an ultimate depressing finale of ":D!!! I CAN POST MORE IN THIS ENDLESS ANONYMOUS PORN I SEEM TO HAVE SUCKED MYSELF INTO MY LIFE IS COMPLETE".

Otherwise, I want my money back, etc, and also I should proooobably move over to DW in a more proactive manner, but well.

Did I mention my preorder of Catherine is still not here? When I'm not hitting "refresh" on el jay I stare out my window for the UPS driver. It's all a little sad over here lately.

ETA: um el jay randomly logged me out while posting? I'm sure it was for my benefit.

You know that awkward moment when you realize you've pretty much ruined an entire franchise of games for yourself?

I mean, when it dawns on you that you can't really concentrate on gameplay because you are just relentlessly thinking of the main character slapping his boyfriend around in a cabin?

...Yeah. Hopefully I can beat this game with a minimum of game overs, because every time Edgeworth tells me to use LOGIC I am really just thinking "boners boners boners." Sorry, Edgey.

Quote of the day, from the kid walking in to the bar where I use wi-fi: "Oh, no. Not this place again!"

Nice one, mom!

Anyway, sundry pals have all vacated the greater Seattle area, after a pretty rad weekend. I've never been down to PAX before, but I guess being as I got to tool around with the trial, uh... trial... of what is now apparently known as Miles Edgeworth Ace Attorney Investigations but what will consistently be parked in brain as Perfect Prosecutor, I guess this was as good a time as any? The demo was plenty sweet, as I believe any game in which one gets to hit a "Logic" button is automatically awesome. And even in the short demo provided, Edgeworth found the time to mention his SPARKLEHOUSE BOYFRIEND and also to be called a fanboy by Gumshoe.

And I got a tin advertising the game. That falls apart the minute you open it. Nice, Edgeworth. Other PAX highlights included repurchasing Super Mario 2, spending entirely too much time dancing with someone in a Katamari costume, and meeting up with a lot of swell folks. I think I said this at the end of that comic convention, but I'll say it again... I need to hit up more cons!

Otherwise, I'm still out of Internet at the apartment, and I've just been reading my weight in books and trying to wrap up Devil Summoner 2.

This weekend was also Bumbershoot and the Gender Odyssey conference. I'm glad to prove once again that my personal priorities remain: music < gender stuff < GIANT FANBOY BONERS.

Okay, okay, I know I've said I'd get on this for weeks!

Majortowne spoilers for all endings of P4, with bonus warnings for me possibly less-than-threeing certain characters a bit too much, and additional threats against those who tempt me with new kink memes! )

I think that's all I really want to say about P4... Or at least everything I can think of for now. I'm slowly replaying, though, so I can see dithering about it in the future, too--just as long as I STAY OFF THAT MEME.

...And I'm not reading it just because it only has one part! It's one part with thirty pages. This isn't healthy for me.

Luckily for red, my tastes pretty much are swung for the 30+ character market. So unless there's a Dojima/Adachi face-punching kink, I'm pretty okay!

Can you tell I'm supposed to be writing a paper yet? No?

Well, links for [livejournal.com profile] cannedebonbon and anyone else who may enjoy--but primarily Candy, as I might get hot DOJIMA/KYLE/HOBO art from this: I shop at grocery stores that stock the P4 Official Design Works artbook, so I has got some Dojima scans for you!

It's a pretty sweet artbook, for the price--but I was a little bummed they left out the images a little special cabbage-lovin' someone's Shadow. Ah, well!

Otherwise, just been homeworking and getting a bit further in Hotel Dusk. I finally got kicked out by Dunning! I seriously thought about my screwup before it happened, too. "Oh, gotta hide all this stuff," I thought. "Eh, but he might get suspicious if I put back all the tools."

Come on, Dunning! ONE SCREWDRIVER. Sheesh...

Ah, mornings where I'm supposed to be doing homework so I don't freak out and have to call out of work on Sunday--I see you are the new only time for me to post to el jay!

The quarter's winding up being a bit crazy, thanks, but I've managed to find some small amounts of time in which to keep myself sane. Aside from passing out on the couch and pretending I'll ever be tired of this amazing video [livejournal.com profile] deadtrain sent me (no, seriously, I'll think I'm done and then I remember how concerned Tatsuya is. Or how sassy Raidou is. Or how terrifyingly happy Demifiend is. Or how precious Serph's junk is. And I'm sure people on my flist are a lot more knowledgeable about the whole jpop thing, but I do also love the source commercial, which is apparently about six men they found on the street somewhere and bribed with warm jackets to DANCE. You might also want to see the two P4 covers, but both contain spoilers, so watch out), I have also been formulating ways to write longer sentences than ever, and playing a bit of Hotel Dusk.

YES I KNOW I still have to spam with stuff on P4 (and I'm also back up to Yukiko's shadow on the second playthrough), but haha, why was I not warned about how sassy Kyle Hyde gets? Okay, maybe I was warned, but why did I not listen? Seriously, this is Kyle Hyde:

"Hey, Kyle, wanna get a sandwich?"
"Sure. I'm sure it'll be great. Sandwiches are for chumps."
"Oh. Uh. Hey Kyle, wanna get some pancakes?"
"Sure. Yeah, sure. What, you want I should eat flat things? Is that it? Think I look flat? Like a chump?"
"Uh... I... I'll be over here faking my death, because we can't have nice things."

MAAAAN. I am not far at all, but clicking on stuff alternates between amusing and "someone-needs-a-slap." Not even lamps are safe. That said, he is pretty hot when he keeps his mouth shut...

Anyway, hopefully everyone had a good Lunar New Year. I realize usually I buy porn for you guys on that day, but I sort of wound up crashing out to be ready for yesterday. BAWWWWW AND NOW I HAVE TO DO THIS WRITEUP BAWWW.

...After I watch Serph's junk again, of course.

Yes!

Well, gents... Ninety-eight hours and twenty-five minutes later, I did it!

True ending on Persona 4! You know, complete with sparkles and flowers and Yosuke and Naoto basically trying to give me a blowjob not that I'm complaining! It's so awesome, and uh. Bewilderingly long?

I managed to get my usual Megaten threshold of levelslutting early enough (level 81 has been fly-form Beelzebub for a few games, and I always go for it), but I'd been thinking of getting up to Lucifer. No dice! Man, it just... I would be doing that for months. 86 for Asura was the best I was doing.

I guess now I have to "concentrate" on "school," or something.

Pffft, come on! I'll bet you I get bonus bonus endings for New Game+... And I never, much to my eternal, sobbing regret, maxed my sweet dear mancandy, DOJIIIIMAAAAAAA. Also: physically incapable of typing his name with a standard number of vowels.

Ending maxed Slink round-up: Fool, Judgment, Star (all a big "obviously"), Fortune (fun, but either not dateable, or I have to choose a dialog option that would make my HANDS BURN OFF), Emperor (eeeeee, the best), Priestess (shrugsville!), Empress (sassy!), Magician (um, almost gay enough to make me forgive King Dickweed!), Chariot (shrugsville, but uh, man, Christmas Eve... :O), Sun (music track and extremely boring!), Strength (Kou, medium-entertaining), the Devil (funtimes!).

Slinks stuck at 9: Justice, Hermit (WHY DID I FEED THAT FISH I BOUGHT FROM TANAKA-SAN TO THAT CAT. WHYYYYYY)

Slinks I always form at the last minute in every Persona game: Tower (but I got it to 3!)

I'm sure I will make a lengthy spoilery post on it later, too--okay, yeah, it'll mainly be about who I want to smooch the most--but for now... Whew, it's just awesome to have gotten through. That game's probably one of the longest I've played.
redders: (cindy sherman - worried)
Whelps, got the "fake" ending in P4!

In a related memo to Atlus:

Dear gents,

I have enclosed in this parcel the bloody mass which consists of the remains of my heart. Oh, no. Please, don't shove it sloppily back in this time. That's quite all right. I'm quite aware you're just going to rip it out and stomp once more the minute it heals.

Please enjoy it.

Aaah, I can't wait for the real ending now! Spoiler-free not-really-an-update, but I really wasn't even thinking of this guy (and I'm still suspecting someone else pretty strongly). Man, I'm slow.

Oh well, I guess it's not as bad as that time I was like, "Wait. Waiiiit... Who's left that could have killed her? I... I don't know where Phoenix was! HE KILLED ELISE DEAUXNIM IT'S ALL BEEN A LIE, HASN'T IT?!"

...Man, now I can't shake the feeling that's how Atlus would have ended it.
redders: (kazuma - snake)
Wow, I really slacked off on updating this. But I guess I knew I would!

Spoilers through approximately August 14, with mention of what occurs gameplay-wise when you max a team character's s link, but no real mention of the plot of that link, and it appears I'm perfectly willing to never begin a new sentence here. And really, I guarantee I go on for a while, so if you're not into this game, slide on by. )

I think that's all for now! I've got the next three days off, though, so I'm sure to be fanning again later. Who knows, what with that snowday... Maybe I will beat it this break!

And promptly click New Game+.
redders: (sga - video games)
No real spoilers, and this is more of a placeholder post for the whole "Oh my goooddddd that dungeon" post of the future, but the (likely slightly misworded) quote for the week is:

Kanji: So, does this mean you came out to them, too?

Ahaha, oh, Kanji. For years I knew persona users must be This Gay to ride the demon ride, but you... You, my friend, are the first dude man enough to call it. KANJI TATSUMI, I salute you.

Even if you are lacking the pompadour.

Otherwise, I'm in through 6/13 or so, and just mucking around with S-Links and extra dungeon. I'm closest to maxing Chie (at level 6), but I've been macking on Yosuke and Kou plenty. Don't you worry about that--they're getting all the Thick Curries and Tasty Potato Salads some slobby guy named Tatsuya Doyle can serve up.
redders: (sga - video games)
We'll see how I manage writing about gaming when I always am thinking, "What's up with not having a month off for just gaming"!

But for the time being...

DOJIIIIIMAAAA YOU ARE THE FRESH HOBO ON THE BLOCK. Persona 4 spoilers through 4/18 )

Yeah, sorry that's so rushed... But I guess I have to take my finals. Heck, all the gameplay was from the 9th--spent all of yesterday faithfully pouring over books at the library.

P4 Day 1

Well, it's in my hands.

Or, more aptly, in the PS2. Yes. Yes, I do have the title screen just running as I update. Yes, I do realize I could wait until, you know, I've got a little in the game to start writing.

But this is my preemptive "you guys, you guys, I have to study and then I have pals coming over and then I know I'm going to get all caught up on fishing minigames and I'm probably not going to get this done in three weeks, am I?" fanboy post, and you're enjoying it!

While downtown, I also accomplished Red's Annual Walk Around Nordstrom's, only to be disappointed that it was identical to last year's display, and that there was no return to the proper Seattle interpretation of Christmas, which involves a lot of perfection, bleak despair, and manorexia. Furthermore, lexmas cards were purchased. No promises on when I'll get around to being done "studying" and waiting for the scruffy dude in the opener to show up.

Okay, it's go time. I'll try and keep up the gaming journal, even if I wind up falling behind everyone playing with me. Oh, and heads up: if you get the game from Gamestop, it comes with an apparently spoilery artbook! So if they did their usual "we sent our Tiara-Action Wright in a different box" song at your local store, be sure to go back and take it. It's pretty flimsily bound, so mine's already less-than-mint c/o my scummy hobo bag.
redders: (bears!)
Ooh, it's time for the free end-of-the-quarter rant! )

In other news, I've started up a bit of Touch Detective because I've got all this time to kill when I should be reading powerpoints before P4 gets into my greedy paws. I finished the first case, and man... It's adorable fun, but, at the same time...

Inflation kinks? In a kid's (well, 10+) game? I... huh?
redders: (holmes - punching)
THE PAPER I'M WRITING RIGHT NOW IS KILLING ME. So let's stop writing it! Okay!

Anyway, I just needed to have a post to say... It's officially The Day After The Day I Beat Nocturne!

Finally! And you know what this means... All the people on my flist who don't give a damn about gaming can finally enjoy be shutting the crap up about it after four years. I bought that game in '04. I started playing it when I lived with [livejournal.com profile] deadtrain and lost that save. I restarted it while living with my ex, he took the memory card. And then there was all these games about games about kissing trees or lawyers or something, not to mention all the games about cannibals and GACKKKKTKTKKT I played earlier this year. BUT NOW IT'S DONE. Beyond the fact that beating this game feels like an immense relief in my life, it was fabulous fun, and the neutral ending was pretty happy (for Megaten)...

Anyway, you non-gamers can relax now.

...And for you gamers, THURSDAY GUYS THURSDAY THURSDAY I MEAN, UH, YOU KNOW, TUESDAY AFTER NEXT! Who's getting P4 on here? I was considering doing a gaming diary for it, as I will be picking it up day-of and I'm hoping to beat it over the few weeks I'm allotted for a break. I mean, I suppose I have some finals and work and jerks like [livejournal.com profile] rollerdragon visiting in there, but mainly I'll be dealing with high school students going on dates while summoning the lord of the flies.
redders: (obama!)
Okay, so... There should be some program somewhere where you can donate your body to science for exactly five days and they put you out for the duration, right? Anyone?

I did get my vote on already--like the entire population of Washington except [livejournal.com profile] fiveagainsttwo, I had an absentee ballot--and now it's just down to less-than-a-week of intense anxiety! I know Obama has ALL the airtime from here til Tuesday. I saw the super-glittery inspirational infomercial last night (or at least part of it). I realize he's something like 10% ahead in the polls. BUT THAT PTSDFTLTE* IS SO INTENSE, AAAAHHHH.

Deep breaths. Okay. I can do this. I'll just, ah... focus on school? Yeah!

Midterms are almost over, which means I can probably get back to Nocturne soon. Ha, who am I kidding, I've been playing all along! I managed, finally, to get through that "Dante's an asshat and keeps chasing me" portion of Amala, and proceeded to hand his ass to him on a plate when we finally fought. I guess, as per usual, I'm sorta crazy-high-level for where I am in the game--I'm just hoping I don't waffle around with side-quest crap all month, as I sort of need to beat it before December 4, when it's Persona 4 time, baby! have a career I'm supposed to be training for, or something?

Oh, and preemptive wish of happy Halloween to those who are doing things. Guess what I'm doing.

No, no, it's more fun than that.

Oh, yeah. IT'S A MIDTERM.

Lately, I've been thinking that there ought to be some sort of god of bus passengers to which one could pray. You know, someone who would effectively respond to demands like "Oh, Bus-Ridero, please friggin' let that driver see me, because I have been running for four blocks and am beginning to resemble a drowned puppy... oh, okay, AWESOME." Usually I'm not so much for breaking internal organs running like that, but waiting for another Sunday bus...

I've also decided recently that I really ought to crack down and do something important this summer. I've only got one month left before classes start, so I really ought to do something character-building. Something that will shake my very foundations. Something that will change this world for the better.

Of course, I'm talking about getting the hell around to beating Nocturne. I've made pretty okay progress on this goal so far--at least for a guy who spends six or seven hours on the stupid puzzle mini-game (should anyone ever play this or care, you do win a pretty good magatama)--finally surpassing the gone-but-not-forgotten lost saves of yore. I'm aiming for an ending where I do it with manikins, so I guess I'll let you all know how that one turns out!

News: not sure if you've seen this yet, [livejournal.com profile] rollerdragon, but all you need to do to get extinct aphids named after you is buy them on Ebay. Everyone else: enjoy a heartwarming tale which will encourage many a young lad into the wonderful world of aquarium ownership.

Well, so technically, I've been back since Friday. But the "night of passing out, followed by a night of beer and Mario Paint, followed by a night of passing out" cycle is a sacred one after any vacation.

Despite my typical will to forget to post photos, the dodgy wireless is working today, so I guess I haven't any excuses.

So, without further ado, the el jay cut:

In but only a quarter of a century, I have seen so much death. A dial-up breaking deal of photos warning. And, uh, perhaps a BONUS WARNING FOR TAXIDERMY is in order. I mean, sure, I might mention getting Mario Paint and P3:FES or something, but it's nothing so important that, should you be likely to vomit over elephant footstools, you need to click. )

And then I flew home to find P3:FES waiting for me. Man, I'd pimp the now-cheaper game to people, but I suppose it's rather impossible for anyone who knows me to have missed my GIANT MEGATEN HARD-ON by now. I'm still waiting to play it though.

After all, I haven't yet listened to that robot save my coloring nearly enough.

THE FUTURE

Well, I finally got out today and bought a wireless card. Everything went pretty smoothly, and though the original "Free City Internet" connection appears to be gone, there's another with a name suspiciously like "hey, this is a hotspot for commuters," which is probably the same one. So far, it's pretty nice (it's pretty funny, as I'm totally not used to it--I keep going to lean back and stretch when I'm waiting for a page to load, and it takes .000001 seconds. Time for serious back pain, as some people have no restraint) but I'm going to keep the landline as emergency backup. You never know, I guess...

But for the time being... Did you know you can like, WATCH THINGS ON INTERNET? It's 100% true! Seriously, I made this purchase just in time to see [livejournal.com profile] arcian's awesome linkage to the P4 trailer--man, I'm pumped! It looks like they're bringing back the concept of Joker/shadow-selves, and I can't help throwing a big fat fangasm over every character being a "glasses" character. Oh, wacky plot contrivances, I love you.

Finally got to play some BRAWL yesterday, as a pal came over. He trounced me... But I guess I need to practice. I mainly like playing as Pit, which I'm sure comes as a complete surprise, given my manliness.
redders: (PW - snark)
Oh, man, sorry for the overposting, and clearly I should be asleep, but.

I just beat Apollo Justice! And it has... Well, I'm not really the type of person to get my heartstrings tugged, or to want to imagine twenty people having this giant touching Thanksgiving dinner together where everyone is totally this huge impromptu loving family with sunshine and rainbows but...

I... I just love Phoenix Wright's otherworldly special ability to build a giant loving family out of completely gay people orphans and kidnapping victims and poisoning victims and oh god, ghosts! The past games got pretty "aww, sniff," at times, but this one was just aggressively having you think things like, "Oh, oh, please let impromptu!son!Apollo bring his rockstar boyfriend to Christmas! He and Edgeworth can talk German together, and make you and Apollo wonder if they're talking about you!"

Man, wow. As I say, I'm not a super sappy person. But, while these games are pretty obviously not about law, and while they are meant to be hilarious... A lot of what makes these games so great is how every game basically ends with the same message: no matter how much you get hit by cars, kidnapped, robbed, or realize your life has been a sham (in general, no matter how utterly terrible and unfair life is), you can still build a great family out of your fellow broken human beings.

I'll... I'll be trying not to sniffle in my sleep, now. Also, I'll be reserving my right to blame 100% of this post on it being almost 3 AM.
